Savegre, San Gerardo de Dota, Costa Rica

Trogon Lodge is located in the area known as Savegre Valley in the small town of San Gerardo de Dota, province of San Jose.  Trogon Lodge is located at 87 km from San Jose, approximately 2- 2 ½ hours driving time, heading south-east of the capital city on the Pan-American highway. As one drives up, marvelous views appear before your eyes, carrot & potato plantations, the countryside, and on a clear day, scenic views of the Province of Cartago and Valley.

At an altitude of 7,000 feet above sea level (2200 meters) and surrounded by the unspoiled ecology of the area, Trogon Lodge sits amidst dazzling flowers, showing amazing shades of colors and where centennial oak trees show their impressive roots.

The song of the Resplendent Quetzal in its magical fly, is a sample of the exuberant vegetation that lives in the area. A collage of green trees and mountains; a peaceful setting enhanced by the sounds of the river in its endless travel through the rocks, lets you feel nature and see it come alive, in a placer where the mist of the scenery sets the mood for those searching to get away from it all.

San Gerardo de Dota is a small community of about 220 people, and part of the area known as “Los Santos” (The Saints, in English), towns named after the name of a Saint (just like Santa Maria, San Pablo de Leon Cortes, and others). It is part of the Los Santos Forest Reserve, a biological corridor for a great array of wildlife, some of which are in danger of extinction. Only 9 km away from San Gerardo is Los Quetzales National Park. If you wish to visit the Park, we recommend you stop on the way to Trogon Lodge for this visit.

Trogón is the perfect place for the romantic ones who enjoy with their significant other the beauty in the small details, as well as a good chat near the fire, among beautiful flowers or beside the Savegre River. Those who visit have a special taste for nature, elegance and good food, much of it organic and always fresh. They love birds, good books, and making the most of their spare time to relax and ponder around exuberant nature. Trogon is that place that allows you to detach from everything that ties, so that you can connect with what sets you free. Our facilities include:

Room

Trogón Lodge features 24 standard and 1 superior room. Standard rooms are spread along the property gardens, in modules of 2 (total of 12 modules). Some rooms are closer to the Restaurant and main facilities, and some others are higher in the forest. The terrain is rugged and vertical. Please let us know when booking if you have any walking limitation to try and locate you closer to the main facilities. Check in time is 2:00 p.m. and check out 12:00 noon. We will gladly welcome you before 2:00 p.m., and you may use our facilities while your room is ready.

People frequently ask if there is wi-fi in our rooms. There isn’t. We’re already using the maximum bandwidth available for the area of San Gerardo de Dota, and due to the rugged and vertical terrain and spread out location of the rooms, it is not possible, at this moment, to be able to add wi-fi in the rooms. All our public areas do have wi-fi. Take this as an opportunity to disconnect from the city bustle and connect with nature. Learn more

Turn right at km 80 (you will see the bus stop and Bar “Los Jilgueros”). Follow the road and the signs for 7 km and turn left where you see Trogon Lodge’s sign.
